Since your artificial turf size is only 15’x14’, I will assume there won’t be any seams for your application. If you don’t have any exposed edges, all you need for the turf installation is nails and infills. If you have exposed edges, you might want to use either Wonderedge or bender board to finish things off. Here are the link to the all our installation accessories including nails and edging products: https://www.globalsynturf.com/catalog/supplies. One of the main tasks of artificial grass installation is to build a solid and smooth base which will be compacted to 90%. Once such sub base has been built, at the time of laying down your turf, you won’t crumble it with your knees or feet. Your concern can only happen if the base is too soft or not even, to learn more about how to build the sub base and install your artificial grass, please visit our installation link at: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation-guides. Please always feel free to call us at 877 796 8873 or email us at [email protected] if you have any other questions, thank you.

The two main reasons to excavate soil and build sub base for artificial grass are: drainage and smooth surface for turf to be laid on. If your application won’t have concern of water being properly drained and your current surface is solid and smooth enough, you probably won’t need to alter the soil. However, I would like to know a bit more details about your project before providing any applicable suggestions, please email us with your project details at [email protected] or call us at 877 796 8873 or simply fill out this online form: https://www.globalsynturf.com/free-quote, thank you.

Regardless the type and size of your artificial grass, the installation of turf to replace real grass lawns are the same. When it comes to the sub base preparation, we typically recommend to excavate 4” of soil, and build the turf sub base of 2-1/2” with drain rock at the bottom and 1-1/2” decomposed granite on top: both layers need to be wetted and compacted at 90%. You can find more details of installations on our website, here is the link: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation-guides. No you won’t need the shockpad if your artificial grass application is only for visual purposes. The function of the shockpad is to provide extra cushioning to the turf and make it feel better while walking on it. However, if you are using the grass for trade shows or showrooms, it will be a great idea to use the shockpad underneath the turf so people can feel the comfort. Well, weed can always find ways to grow anywhere, ideally I will recommend to use weed barrier under the artificial grass if people bothers by weed. Some people might care less about weed problems if they are not over growing. With artificial turf, even weed sometimes pops up along the edges or very rarely through the drainage holes, but they will be very minimal and some people would think a few weed makes the artificial turf look even more realistic. For people like me who would like an absolute clean turf surface, weed barrier will definitely help. If your artificial grass installation has been done properly, the drainage holes won’t get clogged. For most landscape applications or replacing real grass lawns with artificial turf, we recommend to build sub base by having 2” to 2-1/2” of drain rocks and 1” to 1-1/2” of decomposed granite both compacted at 90% before laying turf on top of it. Such sub base will definitely eliminate the possibility of turf’s drainage holes being clogged. To learn more details about how to build the turf sub base, please visit our installation guideline page at: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation-guides. No, gopher wire installed underneath the artificial grass will only prevent gophers or other animals from digging through holes, it will not work on moles at all. Typically moles won’t grow on turf, however when there are debris or dirts on the turf surface, moles might have a chance to grow, therefore, rinsing off the artificial grass with a garden hose will help to prevent moles from growing.
