Artificial Grass Installation

What is your question?

I have a regular size front yard, about 800 sf., currently with real grass on it, and considering to have it replaced with artificial grass, how long will such a project take?

2019-12-31T04:43:13+00:00

For your project particular, an experienced installer will take about 3-5 days, here is the procedure:

Remove the existing lawn will take about a day or less. Building the base should be another day, then laying the turf. Typically your project size will require 3-4 people crew, depending on how well the coordination of materials and no complications of electrical work (yard lights) and irrigation work (cap off and re-routing your existing irrigation system), highly experienced crew can easily complete such project really quickly. Always allow couple of extra days when trying to budget your time though, as reality is always not necessarily perfect when it comes to any landscaping projects, sometimes, the installation can take longer due to many cuts, seams, and edging work, regardless project like yours won't be more than a week.

Very helpful information. there are many ways you can install artificial lawn, Lots of companies who give the installation services. Check out this site https://www.theperfectlawn.com/ that provide these services.
We have seen crew complete a 400 sf project within a day!
It took my installer 2 and half days, really quick on a 500 sf. job.
My neighbor's installer did it within 2 days, small front yard though.
Very good guide on how long the turf installation takes.

I live in Denver, how quickly can we can your turf delivered if we order from one of your dealers here locally.

Global Syn-Turf has a distribution center in Denver and we have inventories there. During the wintertime, our inventories might be light, so it is always a good idea to check with our local distributors/dealers on the inventory and place your order with them. The best way to get connected with someone quickly is to fill out our online free quote form: https://www.globalsynturf.com/free-quote

For turf products that we have in stock, you can will call the orders the same day if order placed before noon, or next day. If products have to be shipped, we will recommend you to check with our local dealers on their delivery schedule. We normally get shipments to our distributors/dealers within a day or two and most of our distributors/dealers provide local deliveries services to get turf to you.

My installer got the turf couple days before he installed it.
This company has a distributor center in Phoenix, AZ, so I assume ordering from AZ should be quick.
I got mine from a local store here in San Diego, picked up myself the second day.
We are the company has the biggest distributor networks and able to get products to our customers within the shortest time in the industry.
I don't know how it took my installer to order the turf, but they delivered the grass couple days before they install them.
If you are nearby one of our distribution centers, we can get an order done within two hours.
Reasonable delivery time.
My installer ordered the turf and delivered, no issues there.
Most of turf orders in California are shipped the same day and transit time is normally 2-3 days. If you are close to our main distribution centers, delivery services by GST is also available.
The installer picked up my turf for me, so there is no problem there. I live in Phoenix, AZ.

Is it difficult to cover patio with synthetic turf? I understand I will need the glue of some special kind. What else?

2019-12-19T01:12:54+00:00

You might depending on the scale of your project: if your artificial turf coverage area is small which doesn't require any tricky layout design and no seams, you should be able to do it yourself, and all you need is the turf and turf glues: you will need to start from one end and gradually working toward the other end when it comes to applying glues, do NOT try to put the glue down for the entire area then laying down the turf.

If your turf area is big and require complicated design and seams, I will suggest you to have installation professionals to do the job for you.

I prefer to ask the expert's help too so the outcome will be great.
Putting the glues will definitely need pros to do, once it get mess up, there won't be coming back, the turf can be ruined I assume.
I think it is not a good idea to do a large area on any type of surfaces, the installation might look easy.
As a turf manufacturer, we always recommend installations to be done by professionals.
I did a little piece on my beat-up wood deck, easy.
I saw people to use nails along the edges instead of gluing down.
The installer has to take out some dirt, and put some base materials before laying the turf for my project.
Clint, the area is approx. 16' x 40' and the smaller patio is 16' x 16'. Do you sell turf in rolls? How big are they? How many would I need?
Mason, I have a piece of turf from Home Depot. It's thin. Every time there is a wind, this thing flies all-around my patio. If not for a fence, I would be hunting for it in my neighbor's yard. I'm not sure if the GST turf is heavy enough to withstand our East Coast's breezes. We have hurricanes from time to time. What if it blows to someone's roof or a car or a window?
I didn't use any glue, simply lay the piece loose on my patio floor. The fake grass is pretty heavy, not going anywhere.

Yes, as long as you can walk it, you can turf it! If the slop gets steep, you will need to watch out for the infills as it tends to be washed away easily, so you might not to want to put much of infills for such installations: by doing the installations without infills, you will need to minimize the seams and try to secure the edges as tight as possible by nailing firmly on the edge boards. As far as drainage, water will simply dispensed sideways.

My front yard has a mild slope to it, the installation was done perfectly!
Great way you put it: you can walk it, you can turf it!
I can see some minor sloped lawns making sense, not sure what the point to have artificial grass installed on a steep slope.
I have a very mild slope, I think the installer might even created a bit of intentionally to better the drainage system.
I have seen the slope with turf all the time.
Turf installations on a slope are being done all the time, but takes pros to do them right.
My yard has a 25 degree slope to it, the installation was done just fine.
I don't think the turf installation on a slope would be a problem at all.
I haven't come across installations that can't be done due to the slopes.
We have customers installing turf vertically on the wall: like hanging carpet. Of course that is to the extreme, not necessarily apply to your concerns here. Just a comment.
Mine has a small slope to it, works fine.
I have seen some artificial turf installations on a slope in my community, and I live in San Diego.
Good to know.

I am an artificial grass installer, new to this, some of the turf we have installed showed lines: only seeing them from certain angles, want to know if they are normal.

2019-12-14T07:21:53+00:00

Lines on certain products can be more visible than others; such lines can be seen only from certain angles and non-visible from other angles. Replacement with the same turf will show the similar lines. Different products can look different, depending on the angles of the lights, and shading, same product can show no lines while be showing lines in another application: this is almost exactly like carpets, where you can see patterns/lines when you are paying attention.

Please understand that visual lines on turf products are normal: such lines are not considered as “defective”, therefore are not covered by our product warranty.

I personally like the 44, more like real green color.
I was watching football games on TV, and most fields the turf look with lines all over the fields so I guess those are visuals. Otherwise those NFL teams spend millions on the turf, can't be product issues, just my personal thoughts.
Sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't. Not sure such thing even bother anyone, no matter what, they look much better than real grass.
I have looked mine and my neighbors, you have to look for them, otherwise, I don't think people pay attention to such lines.
I never pay attention to the lines if any: The real grass never looks perfect anyway, in my opinion, the "less" perfect look to a fake turf the better as you want to achieve the "natural" look.
Experienced installers understand the surroundings and lighting directions, and installing turf accordingly which can make some of lines less visible.
Just like carpet, you can see some pattern lines from time to time.
Our service team run into such questions quite often, and it normal with some visual lines showing at certain time of the day at certain angles: it is all visual, nothing wrong with the turf itself.
I can see a bit lines at certain angle only during the sunset time, doesn't bother me at all.
I have seen the same type of visual lines on my carper and that answers it.
I can see lines on turf while watching NFL games on TV, and I assume those are normal.

I have a small area in my backyard where my dogs can play and do their business, it is about 14' by 20'. I wonder if I can just buy a piece of turf and do the installation myself...

You can always go to this link for installation instructions: https://www.globalsynturf.com/artificial-grass-specifications-specs

It depends how handy you are when it comes to installing artificial grass. In your particular case, you don't need to worry about seaming pieces together which can be one of the most difficult part of an installation. Our products come in at 15' width, and for your application, you will need to get a piece of 15' x 20' as we don't cut the width down even though you can order at 1' incremental of length: for an example, you can order 15' by 1', 15' by 2' and so on... If you live in a area with a lot of rains, you have to make sure to build your base properly so the artificial grass will drain well when it rains. The turf will drain both directly through or side ways, for rainy areas, we always recommend to do the base by following above link. However, for dry areas, side way drain might be just enough. Regardless of rainy or not, you need to make sure have a perfectly compacted and flat base to install our artificial grass. Depends on your yard confirmation, you might need bender board to finish off your edges, here is the link to the bender board product: https://www.globalsynturf.com/artificial-grass-edging. You will also need nails and infills to finish up your installation, and you can find all of these needed products on our accessories page: https://www.globalsynturf.com/catalog/supplies

More importantly, we recommend you to fill out the "Get Free Quote" or "Find a Local Dealer" buttons on our website so we can connect you with one of artificial grass distributors in your area, from where you can purchase our products and getting more face to face help when it comes to your turf installation need.

I don't think I can do it, I'll just hire someone to do it for me.
Huch will it cost me for hiring installers then?
I will leave the installation to the pros.
The going rate of installation in Phoenix is lower than California, it might not be worthy to do any installs ourselves.
Better have the professional do the work, very hard labor in my opinion.
My installer did a good job and they were pretty fast, two days from start to finish.
I will always recommend professional installers for turf installations, not only the results will be professional, but also leave product liabilities in the installer's hands in case DIY ruins the products.
I will leave the installation to the pros.
I am not sure to do all the excavations, building the bases and compacting and laying down the turf, and cutting, seaming: rather a complicated process and some arrangements on materials. Not a DIY thing.
Small one piece job: yes. Big job with seams: maybe not.
My plan is just lay the cheap turf onto the dirt, maybe just flat the areas a bit, as I got a huge area to cover and it is far away from my property, just for the look of green.
I won't even try to do the turf installation by myself.
I put the artificial grass in between the pavers, I had pros did the job.
I think the installation should be done pros, unless you really know what you are doing. Watching them install the turf, it doesn't look like easy to me.

I have installed two pieces of turf in my backyard that were bought at different times (I didn't estimate sf correctly). when laid out the patterns look differently. When I broom and apply the infill will this correct the problem or is there something else I need to do so they match
