What is your question?

I want to know which way is the right way to lay my artificial grass

There are some general guides on how to install artificial grass at what directions, but installers need to have the flexibilities based on every unique layouts or designs. All artificial grass come in rolls, so the fibers been pressed down and facing to one direction when you first roll it open. If you are installing the artificial lawn in your front yard, you always want the tips of fiber to face the street if possible. When you are installing the turf in your back years, you want to tips of turf to face the house. Again these are general practical guides, you might find some of the yards’ sizes or shapes prevented you from following such guideline, or you try to minimize the seams, in such situations, you need to use your best judgments and be flexible. You can always reach us directly by talking to one of the experts here and we are always available to help. I didn't know there are rules with regards to direction of laying the grass. Thanks for the information.

I want to install the artificial grass at the entrance of my house which is made of wood.

Yes, you can. Depending on what type of staple gun you are using, you have to pay attention to the following:

1. You would like to use the narrower staples as they won't crush down the fibers as much

2. You need to make sure not to drive the staples into plywood too tight as the top cross section of staples will catch some fibers and press them down, if your staples are too tight into the plywood, you won't be able to flip the fibers out of the staple heads.

3. You will need to have a pin to pinch out fibers pressed down by the staples otherwise, you might notice the denting areas where staples been used.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't use a staple gun

I saw a small patch on my artificial grass and I'm wondering if I can still fix it or I would have to bring a new piece to replace it?

To replace a piece of turf, you need to be aware of the followings:

1. If you have multiple pieces of turf from your original installation, and only to replace one piece, you need to know that the new pieces of turf might not match up completely with the rest. Artificial grass is made by dye lots, exactly the same as carpets. Even though the product is the same, but different production runs will have different shade to it. By looking at the products themselves, you won't see any differences, but when you put together two pieces of the same product from different product batches, you will notice the dye lot variations. So it is always the best to use the product from the same dyelot for replacement. People normally keep some extras from the installation only to use them to make patches and replacements when needed at a future time. Even using the product from the same dye lot for replacement, you might have issues of variations if the original turf has been installed long time ago: pretty much like carpet, the originally installed piece has its wear and tear during the usage for a long time, now you put a brand new piece next to it, it won't look just right.

2. You need to follow the same procedure on replacing a piece of turf as you normally do with installations, here is the link on our suggestions on how to:

My resolution: Dial the experts! :D
Seems like you have to do it meticulously.
Sounds like complicated.

I just bought a few pieces for my DIY project, can someone give me an idea of how much nails I would be needing to keep them secured

We only recommend to use nails along the edges of artificial lawns at the installation, so you don't need to calculate on how many nails to be used by the areas, rather you need to measure up the perimeters of your lawn and make sure to have nails every 4-6" going along the entire edges. For an example, if you have 300 ft of edges, you will need roughly 900 pieces of nails (300 ft x 12/4). The nails come in as 50 lb. boxes, and each box has about 500 pieces of nails in it. Here is the link for our nail products:

Thanks for this. I'll use your suggestion as a guideline.
Thanks for the nail's link. Will buy some.
The length of the nail used is more crucial than the number of what you are going to use.
I think more nails used, the more durable of peeling it is. :)

I'm curious if I could use sand as infill as I saw it on TV.

We always recommend to use a Drop Spreader to apply infills onto the artificial grass. You can find such spreader from most of home improvement centers or hardware stores or landscape suppliers. It is the same spreader people use to spread the seeds. You can find a picture of such spreader at this link: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation/

I certainly need a specialist to spread the infills for my artificial grass.
Thanks. Will definitely look for this on hardware.

My kids are too excited to ride their bikes on it, can they use it a few days after the installation?

You can starting using the artificial grass lawns as soon as installation is done. The artificial grasses are designed to be used outdoors, you can work on them anytime you like to and you are not going to mess it up.

I have waited for 5 hours!
maybe after a couple of hours.
I prefer to wait at least for a day 'cause I used glue when I installed it.
That's good, no more waiting days!

I'm thinking how to level soil before laying the turf on summer days.

2020-01-15T09:29:52+00:00

This is a great question. It is ok to install artificial grass at any time of the year as long as weather permits. However it is the best to lay turf during warm and sunny days. Here are the reasons:

1. In the warm and sunny day, you can open up the turf let it acclimate and relax. When sun hits the turf it will also make it softer and easier to handle and maneuver, the cutting will be also becoming easier. Once turf get relaxed completely, the chances of have ripples or wrinkles at the installation will be greatly reduced, and you can always expect a perfect installation in such conditions.

2. After turf being installed, the fibers will be automatically standing up without much of extra efforts of power brooms or power washers.

3. During cold and cloudy time of the year, the installation of artificial grass will become more difficult even though it is still doable. Turf will become more rigid and less relaxed which takes extra strength to maneuver and cut. You will also spend extra time and efforts to stretch the turf sometimes might need the help from external heating sources to make rigid turf softer to work with. Once installed under such cold conditions, you will definitely need the power broom to brush up the fibers or use power washer if the temperature is not at the freezing point.

It would be a crazy idea to have artificial grass installed during the cold
I agree. I installed mine on summer and it was easy as the artificial grass laid immediately without wrinkles.
Just in time. I was about to install artificial grass but it's rainy season here.

How does heat affect the rubber?

2020-01-15T06:47:48+00:00

We do not recommend people to put rubber in artificial turf, and we have never carry rubber infills on our product lineup. For sport fields, people use rubber infills to achieve Gmax rating which have been a so-called "standard" for many years. But Global Syn-Turf never recommend to use rubbers as infills for our products and we suggestions to using paddings to achieve GMax requirements. So in short, we don't recommend to put rubber on our products.

It helps stand upright on the fibers.
That's strange. Some people use rubber as infills.
I guess the reason why is because rubber adds up heat to the artificial grass.

My husband wants to install artificial grass but he don't know how to join them.

We recommend to use nails staples to anchor down the edges of artificial lawn at the installation. To have a proper installation done, you need to prepare nailing boards along the edges of the artificial lawn: some people use pressure treated lumbers and sticks to prepare the nailing bases along the perimeters of the lawn, others use concrete anchor bases to secure the nailing boards. Once you have nailing boards ready along the edges, you can start with one end by nailing the turf onto the boards and start your installation of turf. We recommend to use 5-7" of nails, both bright common and galvanized will work just fine, you can find the details information regarding nails here:

https://www.globalsynturf.com/hardware

For normal installations, we don't require putting nails throughout the turf but only along the edges. To our knowledge,  certain installers will put some nails throughout of the lawn except for the perimeters, such practices can be case by case and more of experiences related.

As far as putting green installations, regular nails can't be used, we will recommend to anchor in the edges onto secured edge boards by using finished nailers which will not show the nail heads yet still provide tight anchoring for the installation.

Bought the artificial grass pins to anchor down in place
Saving this for later. Thanks
