Plate compactor or hand compactor are required for artificial grass installations. For small areas, a hand compactor will work just fine, and a powered plate compactor will make more sense for larger installations. Typically, you will need to compact the drain rock layer of the sub base and also the top layer to 90% after one another to ensure solid and smooth foundations to lay your artificial turf. You can rent either kind of compactors from any local tool rental companies at minimum cost, or if you are installation professional, purchasing such compactors is an option from your local hardware or tool stores. When it comes to artificial grass installations, to finish up the edges, bender boards are always recommended along with the stakes: the typical length of the bender board is about 20’, stakes are used to secure the board at every 4-6” to ensure the installation to be solid and lasting. Therefore, you won’t consider the stakes as optional, they are required. It will depend on the length of edges of your artificial grass installation. If you have all the sides exposed that need to use bender boards to finish off and your area is a perfect 15’x16’, you will have 62’ of bender boards, and typically you will need a stake every 4-6’, so 10 to 12 pieces will be sufficient for your project. If your project is not what I have assumed, please let us know the details by calling us (877 796 8873) or emailing us ([email protected]), thank you.

If your front yard where the artificial grass on is flat with minimum traffic, your infills should last you years if not lifetime. Here are some factors you take into consideration that might need to add more infills at certain point:

1. Yard is on a slope that rain water will wash away infills.

2. Yard with leaves or debris issues that you you to regularly blow or sweep which might lose infills given time.

3. Heavy traffic can matte down the turf and carry away infills.

Yes, the bender board used for artificial grass installation can be cut by using a hand saw or a power saw. The bender board is a dense composite material, so a saw with medium or large teeth will work out better.
