Absolutely not! One of the biggest advantages of having artificial grass is that people and pets can get on it right after the rain. There will be some residual water on the turf surface after rain, but it will be clean and not muddy. The ideal sub base for artificial grass should be at a thinness about 4” of which 2-1/2” to be the bottoms layer of drain rocks compacted at 90%, and 1-1/2” to be top layer of decomposed granite also compacted at 90%. Such base system will provide the best drainage for your turf. Please visit this link for general installation guidelines: https://www.globalsynturf.com/installation-guides. Generally speaking, the Class II road base material has bigger particles than decomposed granite. When it comes to artificial grass base installations, people use Class II road base as drain rock layer and the decomposed granite as top layer. However, same named products can vary from region to region, in certain regions, turf installers are using Class II base solely for the base which works out just fine. Seaming of artificial grass requires skills and experiences, and is considered to be one of the key part of the installation process. By that said, we will recommend you to use professionals to do the work for you if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself. To seam the turf together side by side which is most common way of seaming, you need to have a space of the same distance of the turf’s gauge. The gauge of artificial turf is the distance between two stitch rows, most commonly are 3/8”, 1/2” or 5/8”, and 3/16” for putting greens, so if you are seaming the turf with 3/8” gauge, you want to make sure the two pieces of turf to be spaced with 3/8”: be careful here that you don’t have to leave a “gap”, you need to distance the stitch line on piece one to the stitch line on piece two at 3/8”. If you are seaming the two pieces end to end, you won’t need to leave any spaces but to make sure to line up the stitch lines. We use the exactly same yarns to make both SBlade-50 and SBlade-66 turf products and the differences are the faceweight and pile height: the Sbalde-66 is 16 oz heavier than the SBlade-50 and blades are bit higher on Sbalde-66. Quite frankly people won’t see much of the difference between these two artificial grass from a distance. If your artificial grass installation has been done properly, the drainage holes won’t get clogged. For most landscape applications or replacing real grass lawns with artificial turf, we recommend to build sub base by having 2” to 2-1/2” of drain rocks and 1” to 1-1/2” of decomposed granite both compacted at 90% before laying turf on top of it. Such sub base will definitely eliminate the possibility of turf’s drainage holes being clogged. Your artificial grass won’t be curled once you first roll it out: all the fibers will be pressed down facing one direction which is normal due to how we are packaging the turf. Typically before installing the artificial grass, we always recommend people to roll out the turf under the sun to let it relax during which time frame (1-2 hours), the turf and fibers will be warmed up and start to stand up on its own. Please keep in mind that most our artificial grass products come with a form of both straight fibers and thatch (curled), even the fibers being pressed down the thatch of turf will stall maintain its curling form and be functional as they are designed to be: help straight fibers stand up better and provide more realistic look. Artificial grass can be heavy especially when you are dealing with a bigger installations. For most small installations, people just hold the edge or corner of the turf piece and drag/pull to move it around, however, when the piece is getting big to handle by hands, you will need to use a grabbing tool called turf gripper. We used to carry this product (turf gripper), but now currently. It is not hard to find them on the internet.
