Since your artificial turf size is only 15’x14’, I will assume there won’t be any seams for your application. If you don’t have any exposed edges, all you need for the turf installation is nails and infills. Well, weed can always find ways to grow anywhere, ideally I will recommend to use weed barrier under the artificial grass if people bothers by weed. Some people might care less about weed problems if they are not over growing. With artificial turf, even weed sometimes pops up along the edges or very rarely through the drainage holes, but they will be very minimal and some people would think a few weed makes the artificial turf look even more realistic. You will only need to prepare the sub base for artificial grass only by leaving your flower patch the way it is. If not finished with any edging materials around the flower patch, you might need to do so by using either bender board or wonderedge to finish off the perimeters so the artificial turf can connect to the edges perfectly. To achieve the best drainage capacity for artificial grass, both the turf and base are equally important: all our turf products have the drainage capacity at an average of 50-60 inches per hour which can handle the most downpour you can imagine, in order to achieve its best level, the base will need to be able to handle the similar amount of water. We recommend to have the base built as thick as 4” with 2-1/2” of drain rock with 1-1/2” of top layer, this is especially important for rainy areas. Some of the less rainy areas, people might do thinner base. The golden rule for artificial grass drainage is that the turf will drain just as well as the base. Our artificial grass products are definitely safe for these farm animals, however, I personally haven’t seen much of farm applications, and don’t have much of insides to offer as pros and cons go. If the numbers of the animals are limited, I can see the benefit of having turf as it will be very easy to rinse cleaning it with minimal maintenances; the concern can be how to prevent these farm animals from trying to chew or eat the turf which can cause issues. I don’t see it can be a good idea to have turf hosting large amount of farm animals given how unpredictable of the animals’ behaviors.

Artificial grass can take thousands of pounds of dead load weight, we have have had complains of our turf won’t take weight well. Just like carpet, you can put a lot of weight on it, with expectations of after placing weight on it for a long time, the fibers of the area will be flattened down and might look different than the rest of the turf. We don’t offer any of the bulk products that used for artificial grass sub base. People normally get such bulk products from local landscape products suppliers. As far as I know that some installers use the top soil for the top layer of the turf sub base buildup which goes underneath the turf. The typical sub base installation has two layers: drain rock and decomposed granite or sometimes top soil which needs to be coarse enough for drainage purpose, too fine of the top soil can be too dense to drain water properly.
