The grass, in our dog area died due to the dogs using it. After enduring a dirt and mud patch for a period I decided to replace it with artificial turf. Both myself and the dogs appreciate the change because nobody enjoys stepping into an area to attend to their needs. I started by laying a base of pea gravel followed by the turf on top, which allows for drainage and easy cleaning with a hose. If you're hesitant, about making the switch I encourage you to go for it without delay. Personally I regret not taking action.
