Artificial Grass & Pets

What is your question?

In reality, we don't come across dog smell issues as often. Our artificial grass drains so well, and if installations were done properly, the dog smell situations can be minimized early. Here are some suggestions I have to prevent, minimize and get rid of dog smells:

1. At the installation, use Zeolite as artificial turf infill, some people even go extra miles by putting a layer of Zeolite underneath the turf. Zeofill serves as an agent to neutralize urine odors, you can find the details regarding this product here: https://www.globalsynturf.com/products/zeofill-organic-infill

2. Use a hose garden attached bottle filled with vinegar and spray down the smelly areas, or

3. Use our Pet Odor Neutralizer to attach onto a garden hose to spray down the smelly areas, this product will not only get rid the dog smell, but also provide a fresh cut lawn scent. Here is the link: https://www.globalsynturf.com/products/pet-odor-neutralizer

Another option that's worked for me is working with a local cleaning service that specializes in turf and has knowledge of how it is installed and maintained.
I've used the products mentioned here and they worked wonders on my turf.
Does your product come with sample infill as well?

I am considering to have my lawn replaced with artificial, not sure what happens when my dog pee on the fake grass.

Absolutely! One of the best benefits of artificial grass is that it is perfect for dogs to play on and do their business on. All of our turf products have excellent drainage capabilities and great for dogs, a lot of our end users are dog owners and they all see how great the turf system works for their loved ones. We also offer products to help with dog pee such as zeolite infills which can absorb or neutralize the urine smell, here is the link for detailed information on this product: https://www.globalsynturf.com/products/zeofill-organic-infill

Also, we offer product to use with your garden hose spray on to the turf to get rid of urine smell and give you fresh new cut lawn smell, here is the link for our Pet Odor Neutralizer: https://www.globalsynturf.com/products/pet-odor-neutralizer

People also often ask what should I do if dogs poo on the grass, the answer is simple: pick it up as you do on the natural grass, you can rinse off the turf should you need to clean it.

Love the idea of these being pet-friendly!
Great recommendation!
All our turf products are designed to be pet friendly!

I have couple of small poodles, sometimes they try to pull the grass out of my turf, what should I do?

This is a pet training question. So dogs tend to dig on certain surfaces including both artificial turf and real grass. Even though we make our products at high tuft bond: the strength of hold the turf fibers in place is very high, at an average of 8 newtons, but with consistent digging and pulling, turf's integrity will become weaker over time. More importantly, no one would want the dogs to chew or eat artificial grass regardless of the fact of our turf product is 100% safe for humans and animals. We design and manufacture our turf to be safe for people and pets to contact and play on, but not to chew, eat, digest and swallow. Like any other safe products out there, safety does not refer to be damaged by external force and abuse. So the suggestion is to train your dogs not to pull, dig or eat turf. I personally have a German Shepard, I have to train him before he stops messing up with the turf.

What else can you do but to stop your dog? Some dogs dig and chew on anything, we need to train them.
You might need to train your dog not to pull the grass.
Need to stop the dog, and make sure not letting them eat turf.
You have to be careful, do not let the dog eat the fake grass, the dog can get sick.
I am glad my dogs never done that.
Train the dog!

I live in a town house with a tiny yard, want to put a piece of artificial grass turf in there. I have two little dogs, and have been looking at your Pet Turf, is this product my best bet?

Yes, Pet Turf will be our top recommendation for your application! This artificial grass come in with special design fiber forming a "U" shape which is very durable and help the flow of dog's urine as well. Being an unique fiber design, this turf also looks natural as its "U" shaped blades reflect light differently than a flat surface. Most impartially, this Pet Turf has a great drainage system, it drains more than 12 feet of water per hour! Besides durability and drainage, we have made this product short and dense which not only make it easy on your dogs' feet, but also make extreme easy when it comes to clean it. We recommend to use our deodorizer to spray down the area whenever necessary, you can fined the details on the spray product by clinking on this link: https://www.globalsynturf.com/products/pet-odor-neutralizer

Simply attach it to a regular garden hose, and spray! It gives a fresh lawn smell and sweep away the dog smells!

I have paid closed attentions to their products, I think the grass fiber for pet turf and U Blade are the same.
I am considering the Pet Turf for mine.
Star Grass works for me, and it is cheap.
Our Pet Turf is one of the most popular products along east coast, people loves it.
I think any artificial is easier and better than the real grass, just my personal opinion.
I have RM 84 in my yard, this turf is tall and dense works just fine for my two dogs, no complains.
I think the turf being short to make it easier to pick up the dog sh*t.
I don't have any dogs, I can care less. I like the taller turf though.
I think all their products are ok for pet.
I have the Sierra Pro-70, works fine for my dogs.
I will go with Pet Turf as I would think they design and make it for that particular purpose.
I have Riviera-50 with three dogs, no problem so far.
You can go with any of our turf product for your little dogs in state of Florida, they all works just fine.
I personally think the short version of artificial grass is better for dogs. However, in cold weather, the short fiber turf can be a bit stiff for little dogs. Depends on where you live, warm states won't be an issue at all.
I remember seeing this kind of dog spray in Home Depot
I was told by the store that I pretty much can use any artificial grass as they are all good with dogs, I hope that is the case.
Well said.

The urine will flow right through the turf, exactly as it does on natural grass.

good thing my dogs know where to pee!
The grass treat both dog and cat pee the same, haha....
I can't even tell where the dogs pee at on the turf, just like real grass. And I haven't had any smell issue yet.
Drains right through.
Everything will drain through the turf quickly....
haha.
Thank God, we don't have dogs in the neighborhood. How about cats? Their pee definitely smell much worse than dogs. I can just imagine. I don't think turf can withstand that one! It gotta stink. No?
Sounds like no-brainer...

We have a court yard with your pet turf just installed. 9x20. We have 4 dogs and will need to wash and rinse the area. What do you recommend and what would damage the pet turf?

Hi Linda! Thank you for your question. No need to use any chlorinated products, disinfectants, bleach, or high acid or alkaline chemicals on synthetic turf. Just rinse it with water. To neutralize smells, you can use Pet Odor Neutralizer. It's a live liquid enzyme, non-toxic, has over 150 billion microorganisms per gallon and quickly dissolves odors/bacteria. Pre-wet surface; shake the bottle well before use. Attach the nozzle to the water house, and rinse the surface; it dilutes 2 oz per gallon of water.

I haven't done anything to my grass since it installed 5 years ago! Not sure about dog park though.
I saw people simply use water, not sure if water will get out the smell though.
I personally recommend vinegar....
I don't think most dog parks even do anything about it.
If not smelly, just water.
I use the stuff my installer recommended, a product from Global, called Pet Deodorizer, works well..
You are right, Nathan, vinegar is the best yet cheap way to do the deodorizing and cleaning job on artificial grass!
Just regular vinegar will do the trick as far as cleaning the turf.
That's right. Don't use bleach! I have a great Dane and his skin is extremely sensitive. One of the reasons I've got synthetic turf in my backyard.
Intersting....
